2. The residents like to fish in Peach Creek Lake.



3. H. L. Patton, purchased and developed, the land

where the town sits, which is about three miles

south of Splendora.

Did well in the oil business, (H. L. Oil Corporation), and

still has much family history in this area, derived, from a hard

working man, of a unique kind.

Santa Claus Is Coming To East Montgomery County Texas

Santa Claus is coming to town-


And oh, how surprised he'll be when he

gets a good look around.




Starting in Granderland, and Fostoria,

East Montgomery County-

Has always been the interesting place

to be.




Landing in Splendora, Santa sets his

eyes on the trees, especially the pine-

And then he hones in on the East

Montgomery County Development,

Center, where the new Senior Citizen

building is what he will find.






The perfect addition, a building for so

many activities to take place-

Santa then heads further down the road,

with a smile on his face.




Patton Village and Roman Forest, are

decorated to the max-

Santa stops for a moment to deliver

his gifts, and to re-adjust in his sled,

those heavy sacks.




The Roman Forest Special Committee

has been working hard on their

fundraiser event-

To ensure that there is a Fourth of July

Firework Show 2010, where much local

family fun is spent.




And then Santa suddenly notices some

forest that has been cleared-

It makes him sad, as a matter of fact

he gets downright teared.




Until he realizes that the dinosaur park is

going right there in the middle of New

Caney-

And all is okay as he says what a grand

affair, this will be.




And then he hovers over the EMCID building,

and drops a few packages here as far as

he can see-

This is the place where Sawmill Festival 2009

was held by the Chamber of Commerce of

East Montgomery County, and the East

Montgomery County Historical Society won

the first place trophy.




Onto Porter, the last town, but of course, but not

the least-

And he stops in to see the Porter Fire Department,

and admires the new fire training center, where

safety training has been increased.




The future East County Museum is still there, and

he knows that one day it will reside in a new place-

As Santa reflects on all that the East Montgomery

County Historical Society has done, it puts a smile

on his face.





As he leaves the county he shouts out loud,"A very

Merry Christmas to the East Montgomery County

residents, a "unique" Texas county-

In 2010, may you continue to grow, and may you

continue your good works of preserving the history of

exactly how it used to be."

The East Montgomery County Historical Society Meeting For December 2009

The East Montgomery County Historical Society Meeting for December 2009 will be Tuesday December 8th, at 7 p.m. Meet and greet is at 6:30 p.m. Our meetings are located at the R.B. Tullis Library in New Caney, and are every second Tuesday of the month.







Join us in preserving our history.



We will have a Christmas dinner for the December meeting of the Society. It will be Tuesday, December 8th at the R B Tullis, Library on the 59 Hwy access road just north of Community Drive, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.. The turkey will be furnished but side dishes and desserts are welcome. To add to the festivities everyone is asked to tell what your favorite Christmas gift was and why it was your favorite. This can be one you received or one you gave. Please join us for this wonderful time of fellowship.

East Montgomery County Historical Society Garage Sale

The East Montgomery County Historical Society will be hosting a

garage sale at the future East County Museum next to the Porter

Fire Station on Saturday, December 5th, from 9a.m.-4 p.m.

Proceeds will go to restoring our Old Community Building,

which will serve to benefit our community, as a museum.

Well, The East Montgomery County Historical Society


Meetings in 2009, are wrapping up for the year-

And an interesting one we had, is the message that

is quite clear.





HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR



Kati Thornton, a senior at Splendora High School,

was presented with a check for $100 at our April 14th

meeting, for the creation of our logo, for The East

Montgomery County Historical Society.









During March, we listened to Judge Metts, Justice of

the Peace, Precinct 4-

Talk about his family history, the Town of Security,

and so much more.







In April, Lonnie Needham spoke all about the Needham's

family history-

A family that lived off of Northpark, before it was paved,

and has deep roots in East Montgomery County.









May, brought us Mr. Monte Lane and Mr. Roy Roy Harris,

the former heavyweight boxer, from Grangerland/Cut 'n"

Shoot-

These two had interesting stories, without dispute.







June, was highlighted by Mr. Larry Spasic, from the San

Jacinto Battleground-

A speaker coming from where much Texas history can be

found.









July, was the month that our Historian Barbara Hamilton,

did so well and perfectly-

"Ways to Display and Share Family History".









In August, Precinct 4 Constable Rowdy Hayden-

Gave us details, about his family, from way back when.





In September, Kameron Searle, gave us the history of

Montgomery County, The Lake Creek Settlement-

Much time digging into the past, was time well spent.









October, brought Jerry Blunt and Ford family member

Elbert Ford-

Very local history, during our meeting, was revealed

and soared.







November, brought us Mr. and Mrs. Rayford Duke, Rayford

a descendant of Jeremiah Profit Duke and Mary Elizabeth

Tullis Duke, in grand East Montgomery County style-

We learned much from them, as they chatted with us for a

while.




R. B. Tullis was the brother of

Mary Elizabeth Tullis Duke.





Join us in 2010, as we begin anew-

As much more history in East

Montgomery County,there is to acrue.

East Montgomery County Historical Society November Meeting 2009

Speakers at the November 10th meeting of the East Montgomery County Historical Society will be genealogy researchers and residents of Splendora, Mr. and Mrs. Rayford Duke. Rayford is a direct descendant of Jeremiah Profit Duke and Mary Elizabeth Tullis, an early pioneer family of Splendora. The meeting will be held at the R. B. Tullis Library on Hwy 59 access road north of Community Drive. R.B. Tullis, for whom the library was named, was the older brother of Mary Elizabeth Tullis Duke. Meet and Greet will start at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and learn more of this pioneer family.
