1. It has a reputaton of being a well know speed trap.



2. The residents like to fish in Peach Creek Lake.



3. H. L. Patton, purchased and developed, the land

where the town sits, which is about three miles

south of Splendora.

still has much family history in this area, derived, from a hard

working man, of a unique kind.

East Montgomery County Historical Society November Meeting 2009


Speakers at the November 10th meeting of the East Montgomery County Historical Society will be genealogy researchers and residents of Splendora, Mr. and Mrs. Rayford Duke. Rayford is a direct descendant of Jeremiah Profit Duke and Mary Elizabeth Tullis, an early pioneer family of Splendora. The meeting will be held at the R. B. Tullis Library on Hwy 59 access road north of Community Drive. R.B. Tullis, for whom the library was named, was the older brother of Mary Elizabeth Tullis Duke. Meet and Greet will start at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and learn more of this pioneer family.

Three Things That Happened In 1896

Three things that happened back in Texas during 1896:

1. Judge Roy Bean staged the Fitzsimmons-Maher heavyweight title fight on a Rio Grand Island.

2. The first meeting of the Daughters of the Confederacy in Texas took place.

3. The city of Splendora, was founded, and for a brief time was named Cox's Switch.

Three Rewards For Participating In The Bluebonnet Reading Program At Peach Creek Elementary In Splendora

Three rewards for participating in the Bluebonnet Reading Program at Peach Creek Elementary in Splendora:

1. Expansion of reading skills.

2. Receiving a voting card, after reading 5 books, which includes writing a summary, performing Reader's Theatre scripts, and creating posters, that are based on the booksread.

3. Actually getting to vote, while receiving an "I voted" sticker and a snack.
